Mampi – Amama (Nitulo Totyani) Lyrics
Amama papita ntawi
Pe mwe lalila
Kodi tulo twawama?
Nitulo to tyani toluba bana banu
Mama mama
Nitulo to tyani tosalanga ku vuli
Mama mama
Eh mama ah
AmaZulu mwakwiya
Mwakwiyanji?
Mama eh kwayipa
AmaZulu mweluba
Mwetilubako oh
Kuti akule bwino oh
Mwana mwanakazi
Afunika mama alipo
Omusogolela njila
Mwana wangu yayi kwafipa
Mwana wangu panja payipa
Ofunika mama alipo
Omusogolela njila
Zuba yafuma yaloba
Newo nikali kulolesha panja
Ati payakine muweleko
Payakine muwelele
Mwenzofunika mama muliko
Munilangako njila
Mwenzofunika lelo muliko
Niku wuzhani va kumutima
Amama papita ntawi
Pe mwe lalila
Kodi tulo twawama?
Nitulo to tyani toluba bana banu
Mama mama
Nitulo to tyani tosalanga ku vuli
Mama mama
Oh mama ah
AmaZulu mwekwiya
Mwekwiyanji?
Mama eh mama
AmaZulu mweluba
Mwelubako oh
Sometimes what I need is a hug from you
Right now what I need is a word from you
Mawu achilimbikitso oh
Angafume tyala kwa mweo
Mawu achilungamo
Mawu achilimbitso oh
Mawu odekesa mutima
(Mawu anu mama)
Zuba yafuma yaloba
Newo nikali kukulindilani
Ati payakine muweleko
Payakine muwelele
Mwenzofunika mama muliko
Munilangako njila
Mwenzofunika lelo muliko
Niku wuzhani va kumutima
Eh mama
AmaZulu mwakwiya
Mwakwiyanji?
Mama eh kwayipa
AmaZulu mweluba
Mwetilubako oh

About Amama (Nitulo Totyani)
“Amama” alternative title, “Nitulo Totyani” is a song recorded by Zambian singer-songwriter Mampi. It was released on Mothers’ Day 9th May, 2021 under Kalandanya Music Promotions on Mampi’s Youtube Channel.
The song is a lamentation of one who lost their mother at an early age. The singer points out the void they’ve had to bear by highlighting key areas that were affected by the absence of the mother. One part says, in translation, “For a girlchild to grow well, they need the mother to show them the way.”
“Amama” is dedicated to, in Mampi’s own words, “All the mothers we have lost.” To seal it all, the video epilogue reads, “In loving memory of Amama Esther Zulu Mukape. We love and miss you. Happy Mothers’ Day in Heaven.”
The video epilogue ascertains that this was not just a song for Mampi. It was a heartfelt dedication to her own mother. Her passionate delivery says no less.
